Cookie Policy

Last updated: July 10, 2026

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by websites you visit. Related technologies include local storage, pixels, and similar identifiers. They can be essential for the site to work or optional for analytics and marketing.

2. Our approach

On adityamallah.com we use:

  • Essential local storage and technical processing (always on)
  • Analytics via Google Analytics 4 only after you opt in
  • Marketing Google consent signals only after you opt in

A consent banner appears on your first visit. You can Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Customize categories. Change your mind anytime with Cookie settings in the footer or the floating Cookies control. More privacy detail: Privacy Policy.

3. Cookie categories

3.1 Essential (always on)

Required for security, forms, remembering your cookie choice, and basic UI. These do not require consent under most cookie laws when strictly necessary.

Name / key Type Purpose Retention
aditya-cookie-consent localStorage Stores your cookie category choices (Analytics / Marketing) Until you clear site data or we change consent version
aditya-search-recent localStorage Recent site search queries for the search UI Until cleared (short list)
aditya-search-section localStorage Preferred search filter Until cleared
aditya-bookmarks localStorage Articles bookmarked on this device Until removed or cleared
aditya-feedback-* localStorage Article feedback state so we do not re-ask Until cleared
aditya-newsletter-subscribed localStorage UI state after newsletter signup Until cleared
aditya-newsletter-subscribed:topics localStorage Optional topic prefs for UI only Until cleared
Cloudflare edge HTTP / network Security, performance, and delivery of the site Per Cloudflare

3.2 Analytics (optional) - Google Analytics 4

When Analytics is allowed, we load Google Tag / GA4. Typical cookies set by Google include:

Name Provider Purpose Typical retention
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes users (client ID) Up to 2 years
_ga_* Google Analytics Persists session state for a GA4 property Up to 2 years
_gid Google Analytics Distinguishes users (may appear depending on config) ~24 hours

Events we may send when Analytics is on:

  • page_view - each page, including client navigations
  • scroll - 25% / 50% / 75% / 90% / 100% depth
  • click - outbound links
  • file_download - downloadable files
  • search - site search terms and result counts
  • generate_lead - newsletter or contact form success
  • add_to_wishlist / remove_from_wishlist - article bookmarks
  • article_feedback - helpful / not helpful
  • exception - 404-style missing pages

We use Consent Mode v2: until you opt in, analytics_storage is denied. IP anonymization is enabled in our tag config.

3.3 Marketing (optional)

When Marketing is allowed, we grant Google consent for ad_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization. This site does not currently load a separate Meta/TikTok pixel. Marketing mainly enables Google ads-related measurement features tied to the Analytics tag. If Marketing is off, ads data redaction stays enabled.

4. Other third parties

5. How to manage cookies

  • On this site: use Cookie settings (footer) or the Cookies button (bottom-left after you decide)
  • Reject non-essential: Analytics and Marketing stay off; essential storage still works
  • Browser controls: clear cookies and site data for adityamallah.com anytime
  • Google Analytics opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Browser paths (approximate):

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

6. Forms are not cookies

Newsletter and contact submissions send the fields you enter to our Cloudflare Pages Functions and D1 database. That processing is separate from Analytics cookies and is described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Changes

We may update this policy when tools or keys change. The "Last updated" date above will change when we do. If we add new non-essential trackers, we will gate them behind consent.
